GoFundMe Campaign Launched to Fund Free Web Design for Nonprofits
More than $1,000 has been raised through GoFundMe to build free web sites for nonprofit organizations. Money raised will pay for equipment upgrades, software and labor. The web sites are fully integrated with social media and organization staff are trained to update their site, eliminating the need for outside administrators and further cutting costs.
- Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) April 14, 2018 - Tampa, FL - A Tampa man has launched a GoFundMe campaign aimed at raising money to support his work - designing free websites for nonprofit organizations. As of April 15, 2018, the campaign had raised $1,145 through a combination of LinkedIn messages, Facebook ads and appeals to friends and family.
“One of the challenges facing nonprofits is getting the word out about who they are and what they do,” said Daniel Wright, founder of design company WebShaboom. “With a website integrated with social media, they can engage with people all over the world.”
Wright founded WebShaboom in early 2018, but began web design for nonprofit organizations around 2003. Early projects include design and launch of a website for Blue Ridge Area Narcotics Anonymous in Virginia and its sister site, the BRANA Campout.
More recent projects include a redesign for Tampa Funcoast NA and the design and launch for Serenity in the Sand, an annual Texas event.
All projects were done at no cost other than annual domain name and hosting fees. And all are now being maintained in-house. “We train the organization’s staff to update their site,” Wright explained. “They can keep their content fresh without hiring outside administrators.”
The money raised through the GoFundMe campaign will be used for equipment upgrades, software and a $25/hour labor rate for future projects.
“It’s my way of giving back,” Wright said. “It’s helping organizations that enrich our communities.”
