The World Bank has predicted that even though Vietnamese GDP will slow slightly, it will still grow by 6.5% in 2009, compared to the US, -0.5% and the Eurozone, -0.6%. ‘Sourcing in Vietnam’ is committed to the Vietnamese market in the long term and will continue to promote the opportunity for growth by investing in local companies and their products.”

Commonly called “China plus one”, Vietnam is currently getting a competitive edge over China, especially in regards to textiles and clothing, according to a report by Textiles Intelligence. China's drop in competitiveness stems from mounting costs on several fronts. Apart from higher costs of energy and raw materials -- which manufacturers face all over the world -- Chinese textile mills face greater costs in having to comply with growing environmental legislation. At the same time, Chinese apparel factories have to cope with new regulations on working conditions. Also, Vietnam is able to benefit from lower labour costs compared to China.
