Global Capacity Expands Network with High-Speed Ethernet Backbone Utilizing Ciena's 8700 Packetwave Platform
100 Gbps Ethernet Enables Flexible, Higher Performance Connectivity to Drive the Advancement of Over-the-Top Business Solutions.
- (1888PressRelease) November 09, 2016 - Waltham, MA, USA - Global Capacity, the leading connectivity as a service company, today announces the expansion of its One Marketplace™ network backbone with high-speed Ethernet utilizing Ciena's® 8700 Packetwave® Platform. The existing metro infrastructures have been interworked with the new higher speed Ethernet architecture delivering the ability to scale bandwidth capacity along these routes to 100 Gigabit Ethernet. The Ethernet backbone expansion will enable Global Capacity to meet the growing bandwidth needs of the most demanding Cloud, Over-the-Top applications and data services, including Ethernet Private Line (EPL), VoIP, SIP, Dedicated Internet Access, SD-WAN, MPLS and VPLS (VPN).
"We see growing demand for Ethernet bandwidth, driven by cloud and data center connectivity, and the higher traffic needs at enterprise locations," states Patrick Hannon, Chief Revenue Officer of Global Capacity. "Installation of our high-speed Ethernet backbone along major U.S. routes allows Global Capacity to remove the geographical barriers that commonly inhibit bandwidth-intensive business applications, providing our customers with the most flexible network service options that enable seamless connectivity between locations."
The expanded backbone architecture will leverage Ciena's industry-leading 8700 to connect eleven Points of Presence (PoPs) located in San Jose, Los Angeles, Seattle, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Ashburn and New York City, improving One Marketplace access for both customers and suppliers. The multi-terabit programmable Ethernet-over-DWDM packet switch efficiently aggregates and switches large quantities of packet traffic. The new backbone technology will provide latency improvements, revolutionize the operational economics of Gigabit services and create greater cost efficiencies across the network.
"Today's cloud-centric, content driven world requires service providers like Global Capacity to transform their network into a connectivity platform that provides efficient and speedy delivery of high-speed Ethernet services to businesses," adds Jason Phipps, Vice President and General Manager of North America at Ciena. "With Ciena's 8700 as its core network packet switch, Global Capacity will consistently provide services that meet customer needs, while also simplifying service activation and management."
One Marketplace customers can leverage Global Capacity's new high-speed Ethernet backbone to gain access to the most competitive local access connectivity across markets, regardless of where the customer is interconnected to One Marketplace. With this expansion, Global Capacity increases the density of its Ethernet services with Gigabit Ethernet Service between data centers. Also activated in all eleven PoPs are upgraded, diverse IPv6-capable next generation MPLS nodes to support Layer 3 VPN and Business Internet Services, including gigabit Ethernet customer access. No other network is better built to deliver a hybrid WAN than Global Capacity's network of networks with near ubiquitous coverage, flexible access options and true network diversity.
"This expansion delivers increased capacity and cost-efficiency, as well as improved latency through the latest technology," says Tony Thakur, Chief Technology Officer of Global Capacity. "We are constantly investing in our network in ways that will simplify connectivity to high-demand data centers and enterprise locations, and exceed the bandwidth needs of today's data-driven society."
Global Capacity is committed to providing multi-site connectivity services connecting business locations to high-value destinations. Customers need new ways to make their operations more flexible for the future and to help them gain a competitive advantage. We believe that the One Marketplace hybrid infrastructure is key to achieving this flexibility.
