Girl's Beauty Suite Miami Event Brings Awareness to Fibroids and Treatment Options
A fibroid awareness health chat led by a Chief Medical Officer of the Fibroid Center is the highlight of a beauty, health, and wellness event.
- Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) May 14, 2014 - In an effort to bring greater awareness to a health issue affecting one in three women of childbearing age, women throughout South Florida are invited to the Girl's Beauty Suite: A Fibroid Awareness event on May 31, 2014 from 12 - 4pm at LMNT Gallery, 59 NW 36th St, Miami. The Girl's Beauty Suite features a health chat on fibroid symptoms and non-invasive treatment options presented by Dr. Adam Geronemus, Vascular & Interventional Radiologist and Chief Medical Director of the Fibroid Center, with support by ask4UFE. The Girl's Beauty Suite also includes a fun filled beauty day with local service providers offering complimentary wellness and beauty services.
Coming off the heels of National Women's Health Week May 11-17, the fibroid awareness event aims to empower women suffering from fibroids to take control of their health and explore less invasive treatment options that will preserve the uterus. A noncancerous tumor that originates along the muscle layer of the uterus, uterine fibroids have not had national awareness like other health issues plaguing women. As a result, many women are never diagnosed and treated and silently suffer from the symptoms of fibroids, including heavy menstrual cycles, anemia, frequent urination, painful sex, and sometimes even infertility. Unfortunately, for the women who are treated, many unnecessarily get hysterectomies (the complete removal of the uterus) due to lack of education on alternative treatment options.
The Girl's Beauty Suite is a free community event supported by ask4UFE, a national campaign promoting uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) as an alternative to hysterectomy. As a minimally invasive treatment for fibroids, UFE is ideal for women who do not wish to have children. Myomectomy is also a fibroid treatment option, and requires surgery to remove the fibroids but preserves fertility for women who wish to get pregnant.
In addition to the Florida Health Department of Miami-Dade County and Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast disseminating women's health and family planning information to the women, various local beauty and wellness companies will be on hand to offer complimentary services to attendees.
