Shift4 CEO Jared Isaacman has committed to personally matching the first $10 million in donations to nonprofits through The Giving Block’s “Caring With Crypto” campaign, ongoing now. Shift4, an integrated payments and commerce technology company, recently acquired The Giving Block.
“We are thrilled to now accept cryptocurrency donations from our supporters,” said Gift of Life Marrow Registry Director of Development Robyn Malek. “We urge those who want their tax-deductible charitable contributions to directly save lives to consider giving to Gift of Life Marrow Registry.”
Gift of Life is a national registry for volunteer donors of peripheral blood stem cells and bone marrow, used to cure patients worldwide who are battling blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, as well as diseases such as inherited immune disorders and sickle cell. The stem cell donation process is similar to donating blood platelets. To date, Gift of Life has registered 400,000 active donors and has saved the lives of more than 4,100 children and adults.
The organization was founded by Jay Feinberg and his family in 1991, as he searched for a bone marrow donor after a diagnosis of leukemia. An international, four-year search led to a transplant donor not only for Feinberg, but for dozens of others blood cancer patients who had been awaiting transplants. The organization’s goal is to grow the registry to a point where every patient has a matching donor available at the time they are needed.
Donations of cryptocurrency are treated similarly to donations of corporate stock or property, and may be tax deductible for the giver depending on the individual’s situation. Consulting a tax professional is recommended.
