  • (1888PressRelease) June 01, 2024 - BOCA RATON, FL – Gift of Life Marrow Registry is proud to announce our partnership with Health-Link Society, a national student organization that promotes volunteer opportunities for pre-health students to give back to their communities.

Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. A stem cell or marrow transplant could be their only chance at a cure. Gift of Life registers volunteer donors to help those living with leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell, and more than 75 other diseases.

Health-Link Society will work with Gift of Life to recruit new donors at campus drives and educational events around the United States. Health-Link Society is currently chartered on seven campuses: Jefferson University, The Ohio State University, Tempe University, University of Georgia, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Pittsburgh, and University of South Florida, and is expanding its membership to other colleges.

Joining the registry only takes a simple cheek swab and a short questionnaire, and the new donors may someday be able to save the life of a patient diagnosed with a life-threatening disease.

“We are thrilled to team up with Health-Link Society, who are ideal partners in the battle against blood cancer and other diseases,” said Gift of Life Founder and CEO Jay Feinberg. “This is an incredible opportunity to save more lives than ever before!”

Because young donors 18 to 35 years old provide the best outcome for transplant recipients, Gift of Life’s recruiting focuses on this age group, which naturally overlaps with the demographics of college students. Transplant physicians request donors in this age group 85 percent of the time.

“It's been a longstanding goal of our team at Health-Link Society to partner with Gift of Life, and today, we proudly stand together, united in our mission to create change.” said Health-Link Society CEO and President Zakaria Alyan. “I am passionate about this campaign for many reasons, but primarily because it is mission-centered. The ability to save a life with just a cheek swab is truly a superpower—it's a Gift of Life.”

    About Health-Link Society
Health-Link Society (HLS) was launched in 2020 amidst the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic by Zakaria Alyan and Shakibur Rahman, two visionary undergraduate students at Temple University. Their mission was to build a diverse and inclusive community of students with a passion for philanthropy and a keen interest in healthcare careers. Recognizing the lack of volunteering opportunities and the diminishing sense of community among students due to the pandemic, they swiftly acted to bridge this gap, fostering meaningful engagements between aspiring healthcare professionals and their local communities for mutual growth.
