- (1888PressRelease) June 26, 2011 - Morecambe Winter Gardens is a Grade II listed building. It was designed by the architects Mangnall and Littlewood, it was originally named the Victoria Pavilion Theatre in 1897 . The theatre closed to the public in 1977 and was listed the same year. In it's heyday celebrities including George Formby and Laurel and Hardy treading the boards. Max Wall, Beryl Reid and Frankie Howerd all performed there as did Morecambe & Wise and many other variety acts.
Unfortunately the building as seen better days, but this did not stop the spirits from entertaining the team on a visit to Morecambe Winter Gardens. On our last visit here we encountered paranormal activity in a vigil in a room adjacent to the ladies bar, we heard footsteps as though someone was wearing high heels near the ladies bar area, and the sound of a swing door opening, we all expected to see someone approach where we were, but the corridor was empty, and there was no swing door too.
Also in the cellar we had the most amazing light phenomena, it was as though the whole cellar was a wash with activity, the group saw lights literally move so slowly up the walls, a light was also seen as though it was a 100watt bulb, we attempted to somehow replicate this light show the spirit world had given us, by shining our torches in different angles through the gaps on in the stage floor aboard, but to no avail.
We too experienced glass and table work in most of the vigil areas, and we also saw some major spikes in our K2 meter readings.
All in all the ghostly inhabitants of Morecambe Winter Gardens, have never failed to delight and entertain us with their displays of paranormal activity.
Join us on the 1st July 2011 once more as we venture to the Morecambe Winter Gardens, if you dare!
