Georgia-Pacific Professional Receives SFI(R) Certification for Dixie(R) Brand of Foodservice Products
Cups, plates and bowls with SFI logo provide visibility to environmentally responsible choice for operators and consumers; will be spotlighted at National Restaurant Association Show 2013.
- (1888PressRelease) May 17, 2013 - ATLANTA - For more than 90 years, Georgia-Pacific Professional has evolved its classic Dixie® brand of paper foodservice products to meet changing consumer needs and preferences. To address growing interest from both consumers and foodservice operators for environmentally responsible products, as well as demonstrate its ongoing commitment to sustainable forestry, Georgia-Pacific Professional has achieved Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) certification for Dixie paper plates, bowls, hot cups and cold cups, which now feature the SFI® Certified Sourcing logo.
"Georgia-Pacific Professional's sustainability focus is to meet today's consumer and business needs without risking our ability to do so in the future, and use of the SFI logo on Dixie products communicates these efforts to produce sustainable products and promote sustainable practices in our operations," said John Mulcahy, vice president - sustainability and compliance, for Georgia-Pacific Professional. "For our customers and consumers, use of the SFI logo helps make the concept of sustainability more visible and achievable."
GeorgiaPacific's Dixie cup and plate manufacturing plants underwent an extensive third-party audit to receive the globally recognized SFI certification, meaning that Dixie products meet the requirements of the SFI® Chain of Custody standard. This ensures that the wood and fiber Georgia-Pacific purchases to make Dixie products are from responsible and legal sources.
In addition to the new SFI logo, Dixie paper products also provide downstream sustainability benefits because they may be:
• Recycled in a commercial recycling facility that accepts paper products with food residue (such facilities may not be available in all areas)
• Composted in a commercial composting facility with final compost screening capabilities (such facilities may not be available in all areas). These products contain at least 80% compostable cellulose fiber by weight.
The full line of Dixie products will be featured at Georgia-Pacific Professional's Booth #7125 at the National Restaurant Association's Show 2013 in Chicago, May 18-21.The line includes a fresh new look for the Dixie PerfecTouch® insulated paper cup for hot beverages, which helps reduce the need for sleeves and double cupping with its easy-grip texture.
