Genre-Shifting Singer-Songwriter, Rolf Kempf's Album Released
Rolf Kempf takes jazz fusion to another level. His musical improvisations, genre-shifting style is a trip down the road of blues, jazz, pop, ambient, electronica and rock.
- (1888PressRelease) October 26, 2011 - Rolf Kempf is a specialist in blues, jazz, pop, ambient electronica, and rock. He is dubbed a genre-shifting singer-songwriter and producer. His musicality is best manifested when he also throws in improvisations to his tracks. He has a knack for tweaking tunes with vitalizing emotional strength and charm, a potent combo that reels you in. Rolf's songs may be heard just once but they stay with you for a long time. Now that's a good first impression.
His first foray into music was as the writer of Judy Collins' hit song 'Hello, Hurray' on the album 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes', which also contains songs written by Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Ian Tyson. Heavy rocker Alice Cooper also covered his version of the same song on 'Billion Dollar Babies' and included it on his 'Greatest Hits' CD, and it has since been included in a DVD collection of Alice songs by Rhino Records.
And now Rolf wants to showcase his mastery by performing the music himself. On his new EP, 'Sweetness', he delivers his multifaceted influences and styles. Rolf cites Ry Cooder, David Bowie, Weather Report, and Thomas Dolby as icons. Entwined with Blaine Dunaway's violin and Rolf's keyboards with slide guitar accompaniments, you get an interesting eclectic music brew worth listening to. The title track 'Sweetness' is such an example; it brings you to simple times and you're enveloped in good ol' nostalgia but still with a contemporary feel.
