However, the worldwide survey, conducted in six languages last month, also showed developers believe that rapid adoption of generative AI will reduce security issues thus reducing the barrier to quantum computing. In North America, the plurality of developers, 38%, cited improved code security as the main change they expect generative AI to bring in the next year.

Generative AI is also having a significant impact on project development timelines. Eighty-eight percent of developers who have used generative AI have experienced reduced development times. “The increasing use of foundation models and generative AI speeds up code generation, error correction, and the software development process,” said Janel Garvin, Evans Data Corp. Over one-third of global developers believe generative AI and machine learning will be the first important applications for quantum computing.
