General Michael Hayden Featured on Cover of June Metro Magazine
Announcing the keynote speaker for the seventh Raleigh Spy Conference.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) May 28, 2011 - The only man or woman to serve as director of the National Security Agency and the Central Intelligence Agency is featured on the cover of the June issue of Raleigh Metro Magazine. Retired General Michael Hayden is the keynote speaker for the 7th Raleigh Spy Conference (RSC), to be held August 24-26 at the NC Museum of History in the Capital City's downtown district.
The RSC has gained international praise as the only intelligence conference in the nation specifically designed for a lay audience.
Hayden is credited with helping to break down the "walls" between intelligence agencies, the FBI and the Department of Defense while running NSA from 1999 to 2005 and the CIA from 2006 to 2009.
"The successful operation to locate and terminate Usama Bin Laden has been attributed to years of preparation under Hayden's guidance at the helm of America's top spy agencies," said Bernie Reeves, founder of the RSC and editor and publisher of Raleigh Metro Magazine, the host for the annual conference.
On the May 8th episode of "Meet The Press," General Hayden was asked about the trove of data the government gathered from the bin Laden compound in Pakistan, and what will be learned from it that wasn't known before.
"The first thing you want to find out is imminent threat information," General Hayden said. "The second layer of detail you want to find out is locational information and al-Qaeda leadership. And then the third--and this is the long-term effort--you're essentially creating an encyclopedia of how al-Qaeda operates, what their system is, their tactics, their techniques, their procedures. This is wonderful, not just in its size, but we have not gotten what we call SSE, sensitive sight exploitation, going in and getting materials on al-Qaeda leadership for several years. So it's big and it's new."
General Hayden's keynote address for the 2011 RSC is entitled "Killing Usama Bin Laden: Building A Bridge Pebble by Pebble."
