Gaz Whiter Wins NAC NZ Drift Nationals
The inaugural NAC NZ Drift Nationals was held at New Zealand's premier racing circuit, Hampton Downs on Sunday 3 October.
- (1888PressRelease) October 06, 2010 - With a capacity crowd - the largest any New Zealand drifting event has seen - the atmosphere was intense as the drivers took advantage of perfect weather to put on displays of exceptional car control.
Battling for a share of a $5000 prize pool, Gaz Whiter (Big Ben Drift) in his 450kW Nissan S14 Silvia took out the NZ Drift National Championship. Second place went to Andrew Redwood, launching his new Mazda FC RX-7 powered by a Chevrolet LS1 V8. Daynom Templeman (Zenith Motorsport) took out third place in his rotary-powered Mazda RX-7 Series 6 (FD).
In addition to the drifting, Wynn's Super Lap returned for the second time since 2007. Super Lap is a test of a car's circuit prowess, with the cars being timed over one flying lap. Eddie Pinkham (Nissan Skyline GT-R R32) posted the fastest time. In second place was Daniel Currie (Subaru WRX STI) and third place was Rowan Trotter (Subaru WRX STI).
Over 50 competitors entered across all classes, giving the fans over 6 hours of on-track action.
