Gardere's Peter Vogel Receives State Bar of Texas CLE Award
Peter Vogel, chair of the Gardere Wynne Sewell Internet, eCommerce and Technology Industry Team, has earned the 2013 State Bar of Texas Gene Cavin Award for Excellence in Continuing Legal Education.
- Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) September 17, 2013 - Attorney Peter S. Vogel, a partner at Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, is the 2013 recipient of the State Bar of Texas Gene Cavin Award for Excellence in Continuing Legal Education for his work in teaching others about information technology.
Mr. Vogel was presented the award at the State Bar's recent Business Disputes 2013 CLE program on Sept. 13. The award, named for the founder of the State Bar of Texas Continuing Legal Education program, was established in 1989 to honor those who make substantial contributions to continuing legal education.
"For more than 30 years, I have given speeches for the State Bar of Texas to share my thoughts and experiences with other lawyers regarding legal issues about information technology and the Internet without expectation of recognition," Mr. Vogel says. "I had the great opportunity to work with Mr. Cavin for many years, and I am humbled to receive this award."
With a master's degree in computer science and experience as a programmer, Mr. Vogel is chair of Gardere's Internet, eCommerce and Technology Industry Team and leader of the Firm's Electronic Discovery and Document Retention Group.

A recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004, Mr. Vogel served on the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors, where he was the founding chair of the Computer & Technology Section. He also served as president of the Dallas Bar Association and chair of the Dallas Bar Foundation. As an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, Mr. Vogel teaches courses on eDiscovery and the law of eCommerce. For 12 years, Mr. Vogel served as the founding chair of the Texas Supreme Court Judicial Committee on Information Technology, which is responsible for helping automate the Texas court system and establishing the electronic filing system.
