Gardere Partner Beverly Godbey Elected Chair of State Bar of Texas Board of Directors
Gardere Wynne Sewell's Beverly Godbey has been elected to a one-year term as chair of the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas.

Godbey, a partner in the Dallas office of Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, has been elected chair of the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas, after a three-way race for the position resulted in a victorious runoff election. She will begin her one-year term during the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting scheduled for June 23-24, 2011, in San Antonio and will serve as chair until June 2012.
Ms. Godbey's practice focuses on commercial litigation, including ERISA, personal injury, products liability, deceptive trade practices, insurance coverage and non-subscriber cases.
Her State Bar of Texas experience includes serving on the Committee and Section Review Task Force, Client Security Fund Committee, Annual Meeting Committee, Budget Committee, Audit and Finance Committee, Executive Committee and Public Services and Education Committee. She serves on the Texas Access to Justice Commission and is chair of the Bar Leaders for Justice Committee, which is dedicated to improving pro bono legal services to the poor in civil cases.
Ms. Godbey is a past president of the Dallas Bar Association and Dallas Association of Young Lawyers. She is a life fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and the Dallas Bar Foundation. She is a member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, the International Association of Defense Counsel, and the American Law Institute.

Ms. Godbey graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. from Southern Methodist University and earned her J.D. from Tulane University Law School. She is married to the Hon. David Godbey of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
