Gardere Litigation Chair Richard Faulk to Discuss Scientific Evidence at George Mason Judicial Symposium
Gardere Wynne Sewell's Richard Faulk to speak on Daubert during Judicial Symposium on Scientific Evidence in the Courts hosted by George Mason University School of Law.
- Houston, TX (1888PressRelease) April 20, 2012 - Richard O. Faulk, Chair of the Litigation Department of Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, will be a featured luncheon speaker on "Perspectives on Daubert" during the three-day Judicial Symposium on Scientific Evidence in the Courts hosted by the George Mason University School of Law at the Mason Inn Conference Center and Hotel in Fairfax, Va. In addition to his April 24 luncheon speech, Mr. Faulk will moderate panel discussions regarding evidentiary issues raised by hydraulic fracturing litigation and claims involving Bisphenol A (BPA).
Since Daubert was decided, a "flexible" list of "nonexclusive" factors has been applied to hundreds, perhaps thousands, of different fact scenarios, says Mr. Faulk. His presentation will explore the avoidance and exploitation of "analytical gaps" in expert testimony as they relate to Daubert and other cases.
"It's always an honor to participate in these judicial education programs. The colloquy and interaction between the speakers, the judges, and the George Mason law and economics faculty is intriguing and rewarding," remarks Mr. Faulk. "This symposium will explore some of the most difficult issues facing the judiciary. By providing both background information and specific discussions regarding particular controversies, we hope to provide judges with practical approaches to these complex problems."
Mr. Faulk has participated in judicial education programs since 1998 at the University of Kansas, Northwestern University, the AEI-Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies, and now George Mason University. He also has served as an invited speaker on scientific evidence issues for the National Academy of Sciences.
In addition to his litigation work, Mr. Faulk is Chair of the Firm's Environmental Practice and Co-Chair of the Firm's Appellate Practice. He was one of the first Texas lawyers certified as a specialist in federal and state appellate practice in 1987. He was the only environmental attorney included in the 2011 Texas Super Lawyers Top 100 Lawyers in Houston listing and has been recognized as a "Leading Lawyer in Environmental Law" by Chambers USA for his "expertise in all types of environmental litigation, and in particular for his experience in toxic tort litigation."
