Garcelle Beauvais And Stranger Comics Release "I Am Mixed"
Garcelle Beauvais and Stranger Comics children's division, Stranger Kids, officially release new 'I AM' children's book series with maiden property "I AM MIXED."
- (1888PressRelease) May 08, 2013 - Los Angeles, CA - Actress Garcelle Beauvais and publisher Stranger Comics are announcing the release of the first title, "I AM MIXED" launching off their "I AM" children's book series. The street date for the hardcover book has been set for August 7, 2013, and it is available for preorder on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The digital version is already available for download via iBooks (iTunes), Amazon Kindle, and Nook. The second book in the series, currently in production, is expected to be released near the end of the year with others scheduled for 2014 release. The books are co-authored by Garcelle and Stranger's president, Sebastian A. Jones, and beautifully illustrated by artist James C. Webster.
Drawing on her life experience as a mother and her research on children's issues, Beauvais' books will address identity issues relevant to many children today. The first book, "I AM MIXED", focuses on brother and sister Jay and Nia, and explores the thoughts and emotions shared between siblings of mixed ethnicities. The second book in the series, "I AM LIVING IN 2 HOMES," deals with children of divorce. The third installment will be: "I AM ADOPTED."
As an incubator and aggregator of content, Stranger Comics develops and designs franchises for multi-media platforms. Stranger Kids, the children's division of the young publishing company, partnered with Beauvais in part, because they wanted to announce to the world their message of healing, unity, and celebration of all cultures. Sebastian A. Jones, who is of mixed descent himself, remarked that, "Working with Garcelle has been a dream collaboration. Her ideas are progressive, artistic and educational, and we couldn't be happier or more honored to be publishing Garcelle's much needed vision."
Garcelle Beauvais said of the partnership, "I chose Stranger Comics because I knew they would share my same passion for these books. I didn't want to go with a corporate publisher where I wouldn't have control of the characters or the illustrations. I completely trust Stranger with this series. The company is growing so fast and I'm proud to be a part of their journey."
"I Am Mixed is an invaluable teaching tool that all children from all races can learn from."
- HALLE BERRY (from 'I AM MIXED" foreword)
"Such a cute book with great illustrations and a sweet message."
- HEIDI KLUM
"My son, as well as all of his friends, are mixed and they don't know any different. I don't know who this book is better for, the children of this generation or their parents. This book is a wonderful celebration of the beauty of coming from mixed ethnicities and cultures!"
- JAIME PRESSLY
"As a mother of a mixed-race child, I hope my daughter grows up to be proud of who she is and what makes her unique. I Am Mixed is a beautiful, sweet story that encourages children to look within themselves and appreciate the distinct heritage that makes each person special. It reminds us that our diverse cultures and traditions are things that should be honored and treasured."
