Galaxy Macau Aces Seal CIHL Regular Season Title
The Galaxy Macau Aces have sealed first place in the CIHL regular season standings with two games remaining in the 2013-2014 season.
- (1888PressRelease) March 07, 2014 - Hong Kong - Having finished at the bottom of the league for the past two years, this season, with new sponsor Galaxy Entertainment Group on board, the Aces have turned things around and built an insurmountable lead in the regular season standings of Hong Kong's elite ice hockey league.
All season long the Aces have been on strong form and will look to continue their winning ways as they head into the CIHL playoffs, which begin on March 1, with their eyes firmly on the RBC Asia Cup. Six points behind and in second place are the defending CIHL champions, the RBC South China Sharks. The Quam Hong Kong Tycoons are just one point out of second, while the fourth place AsiaXPAT Kowloon Warriors have returned to their winning ways with three-straight wins before the Chinese New Year break.
This season the CIHL, Hong Kong's first full contact ice hockey league, has been as competitive and entertaining as it's ever been, with plenty of on-ice action in front of hockey fans across Hong Kong.
The Aces have certainly impressed the fans at Mega Ice, from the first game of the season where they took an overtime win over the Tycoons. Several new players joined the Aces this season, including Tyler Doherty, who was drafted first overall in the 2013-2014 CIHL draft and Christian Long, who is part of this year's CIHL Intern Program. Long is currently second in the CIHL points standings behind fellow intern Jordan So of the Sharks.
The Aces have lost just three times this season and have both dominated the opposition and pulled off key wins in overtime. Leading the CIHL standings into the Christmas break, the Aces haven't let up and have lost just once since the second half of the season began. As the season comes down to the wire, the Aces will be the team to beat.
"After finishing at the bottom of CIHL for the past two years, we're excited to have everything come together this season and really show our strength and skills as a team," Aces general manager Jeff Griffin said. "While we're happy with how the year's been going, the season's far from over and we're firmly focused on reaching our goal of winning the RBC Asia Cup and becoming the 2013-2014 CIHL champions."
