"Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur is excited to kick off the Pink October celebrations with the launch of 'Fundraising with Style' breast cancer campaign," said Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur Chief Executive Officer Amir Firdaus Abdullah during the launch of the campaign today.
"We are committed in reaching out and engaging the public to support the plight of medically underserved breast cancer patients and together with our supporting partner, Great Eastern, we hope that through campaigns such as these, significant funds are channelled to help save lives," added Amir.
Amir added that this campaign is one of the many corporate social responsibility initiatives that have been spearheaded by Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with the Pink October month. Last year, the private healthcare provider raised RM50,000 through the sale of exclusively designed pink scarves by internationally renowned fashion designer, Zang Toi.
"Through campaigns such as these, we would want to spread the message that early detection saves lives, and it is not only the responsibility of the women to take early detection steps. Men should also play an equally important role and should encourage their partners to conduct breast self-examination (BSE) and undergo yearly breast ultrasound or mammography check."
Fashion designer, Bill Keith who exclusively designed the 'Pink Couture' bag, hoped that the public would come forward and support this good cause.
"Often designer products such as clothes, bags and shoes are exclusive and slightly expensive. But through our Fundraising with Style campaign, anyone can contribute to this good cause and at the same time purchase a designer bag at only RM25. We sincerely hope that the public will come forward and support our pledge to support more women with breast cancer."
The Pink Couture bag which measure 48.3cm x 35.6cm in size and is made from recyclable canvas material.
Senior Vice President and Head, Human Capital of Great Eastern, Nancy Lim said, "We are delighted to be partnering Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur in this initiative to raise funds for breast cancer patients."
"This campaign is just one of our many initiatives to give back to society. At Great Eastern, we truly understand that with today's advancement in medical technology and the awareness on early screenings and regular check-ups, critical illnesses like breast cancer is likely to be detected at a much earlier stage.
However, many customers face dilemma as most critical illness insurance plan pays out only when the illness reaches a critical stage. With our recently launched product, the Smart Early Payout CriticalCare plan, Great Eastern customers would benefit tremendously as it gives them a payout at the early stages of a critical illness, hence enabling them to seek medical treatment before the illness progresses to a more severe and critical stage," she added.
According to a report released by National Cancer Registry (NCR), nearly 70,000 of new cancer cases reported over two years; breast cancer continues to remain the biggest threat.
BCWA President Ranjit Kaur commended the initiative taken by the private healthcare provider and its supporting partners to help support the plight of women with breast cancer and raise awareness about the disease.
"We are very happy to see organizations such as Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur and Great Eastern coming forward to support the plight of women with breast cancer through the sale of this designer shopping bag," said Ranjit.
Ranjit added that ten percent from the amount raised from this campaign will be channelled to support women with breast cancer who require breast prosthesis.
