Research by the Tampa Bay Times and The Center for Investigative Reporting identified 50 large charity organizations that raised billions of dollars but gave hardly any of it to the communities and people who need it. In some cases, these charities gave no money at all. Instead, much of the money went to paying fundraising firms and charity administrators. Across the charitable giving landscape, we’re talking hundreds of billions of dollars that never reach the needy.

Typically, these organizations are well known by residents; but, oftentimes must partner with larger non-profit organizations in order to receive sustainable funding. These larger organizations usually reap most of the financial benefits and the local community gets very little in return.
