Fundraiser scheduled for cancer patient 6-year-old Cooper Erby

- Nashville, TN (1888PressRelease) September 15, 2010 - Local Musicians are donating their talent and Tin Roof 2 Cool Springs is donating the venue and portion of food/beverage proceeds in order to raise much-needed medical funds for Cooper Erby. Cooper, age 6, of Franklin, TN, has battled anaplastic ependymoma, a rare form of cancer, for 18 months.

Cooper's medical costs have totaled in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Cooper's mother, Teresa Erby, is a single mother with primary custody, thus, primary responsibility. Her friends recognize what a hardship Cooper's illness has had on Teresa financially and emotionally and would like to honor Cooper, Teresa, and Cooper's brother, Blake, by organizing a large fundraiser in their honor. Event Planner and friend, Dana Lambrick explains: "Teresa is a strong, hard-working, thoughtful person and devoted mother who has awakened each day for the past 18 months to face a reality that most parents would deem as their worst nightmare. She's been emotionally stretched beyond what any person is reasonably capable of enduring, and the bills are piling up. Our hope is to offer the family alleviation from some of the financial burden forced upon them so they can funnel all their energy toward getting this baby well."
Cooper's initial symptoms in late December 2008/early January 2009 were much like a stomach bug with recurring vomiting several times per week. Cooper's mother, Teresa Erby, was convinced after several weeks that these symptoms were not normal and she took Cooper to the Emergency Room. An MRI showed a brain tumor and Cooper was officially diagnosed with anaplastic ependymoma in March 2009. (Anaplastic Ependymoma affects only about 200 children per year worldwide) A 12-hour brain surgery followed soon after at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt with cranial radiation at St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis. The following MRI showed that the cancer had spread to Cooper's spine requiring full brain and spine radiation. Cooper completed his 10 months of chemotherapy at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt in April 2010.
Cooper started kindergarten this year at Kenrose Elementary in Brentwood. He enjoys playing baseball when he can and building with his legos.
