FTS G5 GOES Transmitter Certified by EUMETSAT for use in Europe
Canadian satellite transmitter approved for use in Europe and Africa, enabling weather stations throughout Europe and parts of Africa to access Meteosat for the transmission of environmental data.
- (1888PressRelease) November 22, 2013 - Delivering exceptional products that work in extreme environments has made a powerful reputation for Forest Technology Systems (FTS), and through a recent certification from the EUMETSAT governing body, the FTS G5-M transmitter is now ready to communicate via Meteosat in Europe and Africa.
FTS GOES (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) technology currently acts as the communication backbone for the US National Climate Reference Station System. It is the standard for all new weather stations for the U.S. National Interagency Fire Center, as well as for all new hydrologic stations used by the Water Survey of Canada.
The new certification allows automated weather stations, located in European and African countries, to transmit environmental data used for various meteorological and hydrological applications, where the location of stations is extremely remote and reliability of data reception is critical.
"Facilitating the collection of relevant data ultimately creates increased awareness of changing climate conditions and helps minimize the human and property costs incurred during large-scale weather events. Effective communication products, like the FTS G5 transmitter, are ideal for long-term collection of data required for creating accurate weather models and macro-level prediction of environmental concerns." - Sean Burns, EUMETSAT
The FTS MeteoSAT transmitter (G5-M) is an extremely low-power, field-driven communications unit, available as an OEM module for integration into the data collection platform of other manufacturers. The G5-M transmits at up to 100bps, and the integrated GPS provides a high level of accuracy (+/- 100 µsec) through time synchronization on start-up as well as once every 24 hours.
The G5-M has been certified as a Data Collection Platform Radio Transmitter by the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), the intergovernmental organization charged with supplying the weather and climate-related satellite data, images, and products to the National Meteorological Services.
"We're pleased to offer customers and partners in Europe, Africa, and Brazil the same reliability, accuracy, and durability we deliver to our GOES communication clients in North America." shared Eric Embacher, Director of Marketing at FTS.
