"This is especially prevalent among girls," asserts Sunni Markowitz, owner of Camp Lantern Creek, who notes that girls' self-esteem starts to nosedive starting at age ten.

Markowitz has declared the 2015 camp season the "Summer of the Shero" (female superhero) and developed a fun summer curriculum that focuses on the "four C's" of 21st Century Leadership: Critical thinking and problem solving, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity and Innovation. Lantern Creek added its own "fifth C" to the summer - Courage. Campers are encouraged to take risks and learn skills like how to use power tools and change a flat tire, paddleboard, master public speaking, craft a compelling story, and more. Lantern Creek is also inviting successful and inspirational women to come to the camp to serve as mentors as a part of the Bright Lights program.
