- Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) September 28, 2013 - It's Kick-Off season, and not just football. The Friends Group of Frying Pan Farm Park commends all the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) volunteers who organize and run the CFC campaigns in their Federal agencies as they have their agency CFC kickoffs, as well as National Visit a Park Day.
Jack Pitzer, President of the Frying Pan Farm Park Friends Group, noted: "The Friends Group is proud to participate in the 2013 Combined Federal Campaign and given all the stresses and effects of sequestration and furloughs we wanted to thank the Federal public servants who serve all of us every day."
There are many special days on the calendar, including "National Visit a Park Day" which is on Friday, October 4th, and is a great way to kick off the weekend. Frying Pan Farm Park is one of the most unique places to visit in Northern Virginia. The park's goal is to preserve a 1920s through 1950s farm, giving you a sense of the agricultural process and rural community life. In addition to the farm, it is a regional equestrian center, and you can see great events for free, including jumping, cross-country, western competitions. As described in the CFC catalog, it provides its visitors with the opportunity to learn about their heritage through:
Preserved rural oasis in suburbia, 100 animals, depression era working farm; equestrian center; historical and environmental education through archival collections, school programs, exhibits and programs.
The annual October Farm Harvest Days celebrations will be tons of fun at Frying Pan starting on Oct 17th with Boo-stravaganza, a 4 day carnival and a two day Farm Harvest Celebration that's free to attend. New this year are special Halloween Wagon Rides the weekends before and after Halloween. Love music? Join us at the Bluegrass Barn series starting on Sunday, October 20th.
