Fremont Temple Hinduism Summit to present Hinduism's science, applicability and denigration
The Hinduism Summit aims to promote an understanding of the science behind Hinduism practices, provide practical guidance on living Hinduism, and unite everyone interested in Hinduism to preserve it.
- San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) May 08, 2012 - Recent surveys are showing that many North Americans are leaning towards Hindu thought. At the same time, a study indicates that over 1/3rd of youth from Hindu families in North America may be converting out of Hinduism by way of marriage. While the growing interest in Hinduism is a testimony to Hinduism's science and universal nature, the counter trend shows ignorance about Hinduism's uniqueness among many born Hindus. The Hinduism Summit (Dharmajagruti Sabha), to be held in Fremont Hindu Temple on Saturday, 12th May from 2:30 to 4:45pm, aims to address these trends as well as threats to Hinduism from physical assaults and intellectual denigration. The Summit will also provide guidance on the Hindu spiritual way of life and its applicability. The organizers, the Fremont Hindu Temple and Forum for Hindu Awakening, welcome everyone interested in Hinduism to this event.
The Hinduism Summit is a free event. It will commence in a traditional Hindu way, with Vedic recitations, lighting of an auspicious oil lamp and blowing of a conch. There will be insightful presentations. Hindu activist Mr. Nilesh Shirodkar will speak on 'Know denigration: preserve Hinduism' while Mr. Amey Ranade from Spiritual Science Research Foundation will present research that shows the spiritual scientific basis of Hindu concepts and practices. Award winning author on Hinduism, Linda Johnsen will outline the central points that Hindus need to teach their children about their amazing culture and how they need to conduct their own life to ensure that Hinduism continues to live on for Hindu youth raised in the West. Bhavna Shinde Hurley, spokesperson of Forum for Hindu Awakening will conclude the presentations with a speech on 'Understanding, living and preserving Hinduism'.
In the short span since the first Hinduism Summit held in July 2009 in Virginia, USA, 14 such Summits have been held in North America, UK and Australia. They have received an overwhelmingly positive response. The Summits conclude with lively discussions between the presenters and attendees, over Hindu vegetarian food and refreshments. The discussions can answer myriad questions like 'What are the basic tenets of Hinduism and Hindu spirituality?' 'Why should one not enter a Hindu temple wearing black, during menses or after consuming alcohol/non-vegetarian food?' 'Spiritual healing remedies in Hinduism - e.g. how to identify and remedy departed ancestors' trouble?' 'Depicting Hindu Deities sexually or trivially - denigration or freedom of speech?'
The exhibition of posters and books at the Hinduism Summit will showcase Hindu spirituality and Hinduism's spiritual science.
