Fourth Of July Celebrated At Historic Fort Harrison

Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) July 13, 2012 - The Church of Scientology, Flag, opened the doors of the historic Fort Harrison this 4th of July for a celebration with neighbors and members of the community. 80 guests assembled in the Crystal Ballroom for live music by the Flag Band, a special Golden Age Theater presentation, food by award-winning chefs and a share in Clearwater's spectacular waterfront fireworks display.

In addition to traditional American Rock and Roll, the East Coast Golden Age Theater performed "When Gilhooley Was In Flower," a classic Western fiction story by L. Ron Hubbard.

This dramatic reading starred Joanie Sigal, Colin Taufer, Melissa Ryan and Doyle Mills and was an action and romantic-filled western tale.

This was followed by fireworks and a performance by the Craic Show, a four-member band that performs Celtic and Gaelic-influenced music.

"We are excited to be able to have the Fort Harrison open for events like this," said Pat Harney, the Public Affairs Director for the Church. "This building has a long history of hospitality in this area and we like being able to continue the tradition."

Since officially opening its doors on December 30th, 1926, the Fort Harrison has hosted charity events, fashion shows, concerts and banquets. During World War II, the Fort Harrison served as barracks for the 588th Army Airborne, who held open houses and performed plays for Clearwater residents. Jazz concerts in the 1970's featuring Harry James, Stan Kenton, Count Basie and Duke Ellington laid the groundwork for what would become Clearwater Jazz Holiday.

The Church of Scientology now the owner of the property, has opened up the facility for non-profit groups and has been holding regular events for the local community. The 4th of July event was the latest such event.
