BIS is the official tradeshow of the Building Industry Association of Southern California and has been the number one tradeshow for the region’s building industry professionals.

KTGY’s Principals Mike Flynn, AIA, LEED AP and Damian Taitano, architect will be speakers at the BIS session, “What Does Green Really Mean?,” on Thursday, November 13, from 9:30 am – 11:00 am in Room 103B. Flynn and Taitano will discuss practical applications to answer market and civic desires to build on sustainability.

With nearly 40 years of experience, Flynn has served as a leader guiding the design and implementation of a wide variety of high-profile commercial, retail, entertainment and resort projects throughout the United States and overseas. His LEED accreditation and substantial experience in designing sustainable buildings provides clients with the opportunity to cut operating costs and function as a corporate citizen. Flynn is currently registered in the following states: California, Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and Virginia.

Taitano is responsible for conceptual planning and architecture on projects throughout California. He leads a team who focuses on in-fill projects over 20 du/ac. Highlights of his work are Briar Rose in the sustainable Terramor Village at Ladera Ranch and multiple infill designs in San Diego that were brought through the Sustainable Building Expedite Program. Prior to joining KTGY, Taitano was involved in the development of thousands of new residences while a member of the in-house architecture department of an international corporate home builder.

Dedicated to sustainable design principles, KTGY is committed to providing the creative leadership for its clients in building green communities that incorporate the best commercially-available materials and technologies to minimize consumption of energy and resources and maximize use of natural, recycled and non-toxic materials. Recently, KTGY won the prestigious 2008 Gold Nugget Grand Award for Best California Green Builder Residential Community for Poppy Lane at Natomas Meadows in Sacramento, Calif. KTGY was also honored for two other outstanding sustainable communities: Vantage of Palo Alto in Palo Alto, Calif.; and Carsten Crossings in Rocklin, Calif.

Also on November 13, from 1:15 pm – 2:45 pm, Principals David Senden and Chris Texter, AIA will be speakers at the BIS session, “Cost Effective Design,” which will offer an interactive design charrette. At KTGY, Senden is responsible for the initial design/planning concept through the design development phase. He leads a team of designers and planners that work hand in hand with the local jurisdiction, builder and community. With a focus on infill housing, Senden provides the vision for the design of each residence and overall neighborhood. Prior to joining KTGY, Senden was a key member of various design firms in Southern California and Louisiana. His recent work has been for clients such as The Hanover Company, Sares-Regis, Toll Brothers, American Campus Communities, Bridge Housing, and Regis Homes of Northern California.

Texter brings nearly 20 years of experience and technical expertise in residential projects. His design development and construction document expertise has been instrumental in the successful completion of countless residential projects, representing thousands of residential units throughout California and Nevada. Experienced with the latest state and city mandates, his work with a range of non-profit and for-profit builders show how KTGY can bridge the gap between new standards, such as green building, and the current market conditions.

KTGY has acclaimed experience with market rate multi-family communities including mixed-use, affordable, campus and senior housing. As designers of several award-winning high-density and mixed-use projects, the firm understands the specific needs of urban infill neighborhoods.
