The company's theme for the conference is "Transition to the Future...Trust Harris." Two of the papers received distinction as second- and third-place winners among all the submissions. The winning papers:

"Aircraft Access to SWIM for General Aviation," co-authored by Arthur Ahrens of Harris, Garret S. Livack of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and Matt de Ris of North Star Group, LLC, was awarded second place. "Advancing Situational Awareness for Technical Operations," co-authored by Sharon S. Chinoy of Harris and David J. Fischer of the FAA, was awarded third place. The paper discusses the critical need for improved maintenance tools to support maximum availability of the National Airspace System (NAS), and offers an overview of the FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI) Operations Situational Awareness Monitor (FOSAM) initiative, which provides real-time, net-centric, integrated NAS information. The paper can be downloaded at Advancing Situational Awareness for Technical Operations .

Harris also is providing interactive demonstrations of its FOSAM solution during ATCA.

In addition to Harris' contributions to the exchange of technical ideas through the white papers, John O'Sullivan, vice president, Harris Mission Critical Networks, is a panel member at today's conference session titled, "Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Volcanoes, Oh My!" The panel will recap the impacts on aviation of recent disruptive global events and what is and is not being done to address this issue. Harris chief systems engineer and FTI system architect, Mark Graham, also will give a presentation on "network resiliency."

Harris has extensive experience developing solutions for the air traffic control community. The company is the prime contractor for FTI, the Weather and Radar Processor (WARP), and the Voice Switching and Control System (VSCS), which provides critical air-to-ground communications links between en-route aircraft and air traffic controllers throughout the continental U.S. Harris also is the prime contractor for the Operational and Supportability Implementation System (OASIS), and the Alaskan Satellite Telecommunications Infrastructure (ASTI) program.
