"I have been concerned about the state of the private tuition industry as a whole for some time now," said Adam. "Seeing the recent coverage of the Dr McKee investigation only reinforces the need for regulation of the private tuition industry, especially with private tuition being increasingly used by thousands of families across the county. When one considers that the safety of children and the protection of worried families from exploitation is involved, I find it astounding that there is no regulation in place already."
"Recent changes in employment law have taken a step in the right direction," Adam continued, "by putting the responsibility of vetting potential tutors firmly with the agencies who are connecting the tutor with a the family, but I don't think it's enough. Many of the families I have spoken to are unaware of the change in the law and there are still so many companies providing means of hiring a private tutor whilst dodging their responsibilities by claiming they are not covered by employment agency law," Adam explained. "Whilst it is appalling that these families have been defrauded in the McKee case, it's my sincere hope that it will raise awareness of these issues and motivate the implementation of real measures to protect both children and families from dangerous and unscrupulous individuals."
