Fort Wayne Women Unite With One Purpose and One Goal - "In It To End It"
April 30 Charity Event to Benefit Breast Cancer Survivors and Support.
- Fort Wayne, IN (1888PressRelease) April 19, 2011 - Every year, 240,000 women receive the news that they've been diagnosed with breast cancer. Every one of these women is someone's mother, best friend, daughter or loved one.
Four Fort Wayne women, the BFFs, Breast Friends Forever - Kerry LaMaster, Fabiola Macias, Nikki Murphy and Laurie Perolio-Bullinger are uniting in the fight against breast cancer and will join thousands of breast cancer supporters to raise awareness of the disease and money for research. They will be walking in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Chicago, Illinois on June 4-5.
The women will walk nearly 40 miles over two days to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research, screening, support and treatment programs.
Inspired by her own grandmother's fight against breast cancer, Nikki Murphy began to research organizations in efforts of finding out how she could get more involved. She decided to show her support and honor her own grandmother by participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer - Chicago event.
"The Avon Foundation has done so much to raise awareness and provide the screening, support and treatment which many people desperately need in today's economic situation," commented Murphy. "I thought what better way to do my part than to gather my friends and walk together to raise money for this disease."
Each woman is required to raise at least $1,800 to participate in the walk. They are looking for donations from area businesses and individual support to help them with these efforts. They will also be hosting a charity event on April 30 from 5:30p - 11p at the Fort Wayne Sport Club with food provided by Nine Mile Restaurant and entertainment by local band, Walkin' Papers, plus a silent auction with items from the YMCA, IPFW, Pampered Chef and more. Cost is $10 for adults and kids 2-12 is just $5. Cash bar is also available.
"My mother is a breast cancer survivor so participating in this event also has a very special meaning for me, "added Macias. "Thanks to organizations such as the Avon Foundation, my mother is in remission and has been cancer free for four years now."
A Zumbathon in support of the women's breast cancer fundraising efforts will also be held on May 21 at TumbleX, located at 4012 Lower Huntington Road from 1-3pm. Cost is $10.
"We're hoping to reach out to those in the community to help us with our efforts," stated LaMaster.
"With a woman in the US being diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes, we have to get involved and do our part," added Perolio-Bullinger.
