Fort Ticonderoga Awards Scholarship for Conference on Lakes
Fort Ticonderoga has announced the winner of the scholarship for their Conference on Lake George.
- Albany-Schenectady-Troy, NY (1888PressRelease) July 10, 2013 - Fort Ticonderoga is pleased to announce the winner of a teacher scholarship to attend the Second Conference on Lake George and Lake Champlain August 10 & 11, 2013. The scholarship goes to Robert J. Dornfried, a teacher at East Catholic High School in Manchester, Connecticut.
Since 2001, Fort Ticonderoga has provided 108 scholarships for teachers to attend its seminars and conferences at no cost. These scholarships are made possible by the generous support of Conference patrons.
The Conference on Lake George and Lake Champlain at Fort Ticonderoga features presentations in three strands. The history strand includes presentations on the Battle of Diamond Island on Lake George during the Burgoyne Campaign in 1777 by Bruce Venter, the archaeological discovery of Pike's Cantonment from the War of 1812 near Plattsburgh by Keith Herkalo, and the history of the Lake Champlain Bluestone Quarry by Morris Glenn.
The arts/culture strand includes presentations on Seneca Ray Stoddard's Fort Ticonderoga by Chris Fox, Alfred Stieglitz and Georgia O'Keeffe on Lake George by Rebecca Pelchar, and the Sound Inter Club sailboats on Lake George and their restoration by Reuben Smith.
The ecology/current issues strand included presentations on the state of Lake Champlain by Colleen Hickey, sustainable forestry in the Champlain basin by Greg Mayes, and the impact of the historic 2011 floods on the long-term health of Lake Champlain by Mike Winslow.
