Fort Myers Orthopedic Shoe Store, Foot Solutions, Assisting with Oil Spill Clean Up Efforts
A Fort Myers orthopedic shoe store, Foot Solutions, continues to work with the charity organization, Matter of Trust, to help stop the spread of Oil from reaching Gulf Shores.
- Fort Myers-Cape Coral, FL (1888PressRelease) July 20, 2010 - Fort Myers Orthopedic Shoe Store, Foot Solutions of Estero, decided they are not willing to stand idly by as the oil spill in the Gulf inches closer and closer to the shores of Southwest Florida. They have recently launched a campaign in conjunction with an ecological charity, Matter of Trust, dedicated to assistance with oil spill clean up efforts. Two months ago, Foot Solutions began collecting needed supplies and monetary donations to help with clean-up efforts in the Gulf of Mexico, after the largest oil spill in our nation's history.
"It's a very helpless feeling, watching oil continue to spread throughout the Gulf. We really wanted to do something proactive to help, even if it's on a very basic level," said Chris Cole, owner of Foot Solutions of Estero. "We heard that Matter of Trust was collecting materials to assist in the clean-up, and that they were in need of nylons. So, two months ago we began the campaign locally, asking people to bring in their old nylons. We had a fairly good response, but now there are other materials in demand. We want to get the word out about the new materials that are needed, and let the community know that we're still a drop off location."
The supplies and donations will be used to support the massive effort to cleanup oil in the Gulf waters, before it has a chance to reach our shorelines, beaches and waterways. Residents are invited to help out by dropping off needed supplies or donations at Foot Solutions of Estero during normal business hours. WHAT'S NEEDED MOST NOW: Anchor line, crawdad bags, burlap bags, zip ties,
volunteers to make boom and trucking, and / or funding for all of these. Foot Solutions will be shipping the supplies and donations to Matter of Trust, an ecological public charity.
Foot Solutions is also personally donating $5 for every pair of shoes sold from now through August.
"Even if Southwest Florida is fortunate enough to not be impacted by this catastrophe, we have the equipment and materials to assist our neighboring communities," said Cole. "As residents of the Gulf Coast of Florida, this disaster takes on a personal importance to us. Our Foot Solutions customers have been very generous in the past with other charitable causes and I am certain they will rise to this occasion as well."
