Former Superbowl Champ Dorsey Levens' Stage Play "Stripped" Brought Star Power And Awareness To Georgia Prostate Cancer Coalition
Radiotherapy Centers of Georgia, an official sponsor of the play "Stripped", teamed up with Dorsey Levens for the celebrity and media "Blue Carpet" viewing on Thursday night. Stripped's standout cast featured a few well-known Atlanta faces, including Lisa Wu Hartwell (former star on Real Housewives of Atlanta), Rashan Ali (Media Personality), and Ryan Stewart (2 Live Stews).
- Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) August 05, 2011 - Dorsey Levens, former NFL player and Super Bowl champion, partnered with Tiffany Brown's A Higher Calling Theatre Company for Stripped, a follow up to their 2010 hit play, Torn. "Stripped's" standout cast featured a few well-known Atlanta faces, including Lisa Wu Hartwell (former star on Real Housewives of Atlanta), Rashan Ali (Media Personality), and Ryan Stewart (2 Live Stews).
"Stripped" gave a glimpse into the life of high profile football player, Jayden Dorsey and the sacrifices that come with the territory. The story grabbed audiences' attention by offering the view from the players' perspective versus the often repeated stereotypes of marquee athletes. Stripped also touched on the very serious topic of prostate cancer, as well as early onset Alzheimer's disease and its life changing effects as a result of multiple concussions players suffer on the field. In addition to Levens and Stewart, former NFL players Karon Joseph Riley and Ed Hartwell contributed to the veracity of the plays' theme.
Radiotherapy Centers of Georgia, an official sponsor, teamed up with Dorsey for the celebrity and media "Blue Carpet" viewing on Thursday night. Dorsey, a long time supporter and spokesperson for Radiotherapy Centers, highlighted the importance of prostate cancer screening and donated a portion of ticket sales to the Georgia Prostate Cancer Coalition. Many local Atlanta celebrities and officials attended the "Blue Carpet" viewing, and honored Dorsey for his work and efforts in the Atlanta community.
At the conclusion of the performance, Dorsey was awarded a proclamation from the Fulton County Commissioners office and the prestigious Phoenix Award by Mayor Kasim Reed's office. "Your desire to produce quality plays that challenge our theatre artists, inspire and provoke audiences to thought and dialogue, and push the physical, visual and design elements of production, will not only resonate in the theater arena, but also your place within it." said Mayor Reed, "The City of Atlanta applauds you for accepting this bold charge."
"Stripped" also hosted a networking night through a partnership with the Metropolitan Atlanta chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Atlanta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta and the Georgia Tech Black Alumni Association. "Atlanta as a community has always supported me," said Levens "and this play, with a great cast and team allowed me to not only put on a show but build partnerships to give back at the same time."
