FORMER HOMELAND SECURITY DEPUTY SECRETARY ELECTED CHAIRMAN The Honorable Paul Schneider will Lead Foundation's Board of Directors
The Honorable Paul Schneider, principal at the Chertoff Group, was the immediate former Deputy Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security has been elected as Chairman of the Applied Science Foundation for Homeland Security.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) November 09, 2010 - The Board of Directors of the Applied Science Foundation for Homeland Security announced its election today of the Honorable Paul Schneider as the Board's next Chairman. Mr. Schneider, who is a principal at the Chertoff Group, was the immediate former Deputy Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security.
"We are very fortunate to have Paul leading our Board," said Foundation President Frank Otto. "His vast depth of experience in the homeland security, defense and private sector arenas makes him the ideal leader to take our Foundation to the next level." Otto said.
"I am both honored and excited to be part of this outstanding organization," Mr. Schneider said in accepting the position. "The Foundation is a game-changer for the way homeland security end-users work with the private sector and academia and our efforts will, ultimately, make our nation safer."
As Deputy Secretary, Mr. Schneider served as the Department's COO with responsibility for managing DHS' day-to-day operations. Prior to becoming the Department's Deputy Secretary, Mr. Schneider served as Under Secretary for Management where he was responsible for, among other things, the department's budget, appropriations, accounting and finance and acquisition and procurement.
Mr. Schneider holds a degree in nuclear engineering and is a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE), Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), Association of Scientists and Engineers (ASE), Navy League, Association of Old Crows and the Naval Institute. He currently serves on several corporate boards and advisory groups.
The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose mission it is to help protect the United States from man-made and natural disasters by: (1) bringing together the public and private sectors and academia to develop and commercialize resilient and sustainable homeland security products and services; (2) providing a state-of-art command and control center for government entities; and, (3) offering the most up-to-date training and exercise programs for first responders and other homeland security end-users.
