Former Head of Force Protection, British Army invites you to attend Military Robotics and Autonomous Systems 2019
SMi reports: In 6 weeks’ time the 2nd Annual Military Robotics and Autonomous Systems conference will return to London on the 3rd-4th April.
- (1888PressRelease) February 19, 2019 - In just 6 weeks’ time, SMi will host Military Robotic and Autonomous Systems (RAS) conference, taking place on the 3rd-4th April 2019 in London. The event will seek to further enhance and modernise the British Army’s capabilities with new emerging technologies. Emerging technologies and their implication on future land warfare are vast and understanding the main issues behind land robotics is vital.
For those who are interested in attending, there is a £100 early bird discount which will expire at Midnight on Thursday 28th February 2019, register at http://www.robotics-autonomous.com/1888press
SMi are delighted to have Brigadier (ret’d) Ian Cameron-Mowat, Former Head of Force Protection, British Army chairing the two-day conference. See his invitation to the conference below.
“Following on from the unprecedented success of SMi's 2018 Conference, I am delighted to invite you to the 2nd Military Robotics and Autonomous Systems Conference which will be held in London on the 3rd and 4th of April.
The geo-political landscape is as complex today as it has ever been. We live in a highly dynamic and multipolar world where new threats and new challenges can emerge from the most unexpected places. Nations and governments around the globe must equip themselves to deal quickly and effectively with new threats. Meanwhile, technology driven by the rest of the real world – the non-military world – charges on relentlessly, notably in the field of robotics and autonomous systems.
While most forward-looking armed forces recognise the threats and the opportunities represented by advances in robotics and autonomous systems, not all are looking at these issues from the same perspective or with the same sense of urgency. Nor is there a level playing field as far as ethical, legal or conceptual matters are concerned.
So far we’ve seen robots move out from bomb disposal into reconnaissance and surveillance tasks; as remotely controlled systems take on other roles, including armed ones, and autonomy gains ever greater prominence in the civil and military sectors, where is all of this taking us? Experimentation work is taking place and new systems are being fielded, but history is littered with examples where, in their efforts to employ little-understood technology, nations have failed to make a success of the difficult technical and conceptual challenge.
Using the feedback from attendees at last year’s ground-breaking and thought-provoking conference we have put together an exciting programme of world class experts to deliver the 2019 event. This conference will bring together senior leaders, project teams, industry and technical experts to debate, discuss and shape the status and future of robotics and autonomous systems in the Land environment.
I have every confidence that we will build on last year’s initial success and raise the bar even higher. For anyone working or with an interest in the field this is a genuinely important conference. The exchange of information and ideas will provide fertile ground from which to reap the true rewards of a comprehensive understanding of the issues surrounding the technological advances and potential operational uses of robotics and autonomous systems.
I look forward to seeing you in London.”
