Formabilio & Avirex Together For The Design Contest "Fashion Heroes"
Style and functionality these are the values to which the projects have to take inspiration. The contest has been presented Friday October the 4th during the event: Formabilio.com: furniture in the web era.
- (1888PressRelease) October 12, 2013 - Functionality, history, style. These are the values that inspire Fashion Heroes, 17th contest launched by Formabilio, participatory design platform, in collaboration with the renowned man fashion brand Avirex.
In line with Avirex's values and style, the aim of Fashion Heroes is to look back, explore History with capital H, the World Wars era and retrace the route of big and small inventions that have been adapted, revisited, innovated to arrive to our modern times, and that are improving our lives every day. As the story of Avirex teaches, there are materials, productions, technologies conceived at the beginning for military use that have then become suitable for the community.
Designers, architects and creatives that intend to enter the contest Fashion Heroes have to explore the two fronts: style and functionality. It is possible to submit furniture and home accessory projects inspired by jazz vinyl tunes in radio broadcasting and the atmosphere of the first cinema movies, for everybody, like the first standardized products. Or again, "suitable for fashion", furniture or home accessories conceived to organize, store, hang, shield or safeguard our fashion garments. Therefore are allowed furniture pieces or home accessories as consoles, cabinets, sofas, armchairs, stools, poufs, bookcases, containers/boxes, shelves, coin trays, rugs, coat racks, valet stands, cushions etc. Do not submit: lamps, objects, or toys.
Projects have to respect certain fundamental requirements: to be "doable" with the materials -solid and panel wood, upholstered furniture with few different finishing- and production capacity of Formabilio's partner companies. Another essential requirement is the dimension of the packaging that cannot be over 230 cm in length and exceed 30 kg of weight (packaging included) for each parcel in order to keep shipping costs low. Last but not least, projects have to be easy to assemble and install, inspired by eco-design values.
The contest Fashion Heroes has been launched during Formabilio.com: l'arredo ai tempi della rete, event organized by Formabilio in partnership with Avirex, Friday October the 4th, 2013. The elegant showroom of Avirex will host the exhibition and the Formabilio's products, conceived by designers from all over the world, voted by a community of design addicted, respecting eco-friendly values, manufactured by small Italian companies and sold online on the webplatform.
A chance to see how design becomes "democratic" thanks to the web, entrusting the web to intercept talents and the best ideas, and eventually open to the decision of a network of users. Functional, beautiful, eco-friendly, design is tainted by new languages, new means. Then, in traditional workshops, artisans make it become furniture, solid, tangible, real, ready to "land", thanks again to the web, into the homes of all over the world.

The projects for the contest Fashion Heroes have to be submitted using the dedicate webpage from 10.00 am CEST on October the 9th, 2013 and by no later than 6.00 pm CET on November the 6th, 2013. Formabilio's community will have time to vote the projects until 6:00 pm CET on November the 20th, 2013 and winners will be announced by December the 4th, 2013.
Then, as always, the technical Commission formed by representatives of Formabilio, its manufacturers, communications and design experts, who will select at least 2 projects for production. Moreover, following the philosophy of Formabilio, at least one will be chosen from among the 10 community most voted projects.
For the top 3 projects of Fashion Heroes there are special prizes by Avirex: first place will receive an elegant outfit, a pair of chinos (Avirex worldwide famous model of trousers) shirt and jacket, second place will receive a pair of chinos and shirt, third place a pair of chinos.
As usual, to the winners, Formabilio will give the possibility to see their project produced and to earn the 7% of the final sale price derived from the sale on formabilio.com website.
