Ford Indoor Football Arena Celebrate Successful Super 5's Tournament
A fantastic night of 5-a-side football came to a dramatic end when a local business team 'BMS' overcame the current league champions 'Cupid FC' with a 3-2 victory in the final at Ford Indoor Football Arena.
- (1888PressRelease) November 06, 2013 - Players and supporters alike packed into the Ford Airfield venue to take part in the end-of-season tournament, to watch teams battle for both the trophy and the highly acclaimed championship title. Amongst the teams representing local businesses were 'Fargo', 'GTS' (playing as Bainstree Wanderers) and the eventual champions 'BMS'.
The exciting event proved to be a truly international affair with several teams fielding predominantly foreign players, some of which having travelled from as far as Lithuania and Israel. Amongst the teams competing were representatives from well known local 11-a-side clubs, along with a series of newly formed teams, such as 'The Cobras'' and 'The Ballkickers'.
Organisers of the tournament were very pleased to report that the vast majority of matches finished with a winning margin of just one goal, however there were notable match wins recorded for 'Cupid FC', 'Prestige', 'BMS' and 'USSR' during the group stages. Only 'BMS' and 'Prestige Worldwide' successfully cruised through the group stages with back to back wins.
'Prestige' were also able to maintain a clean sheet, without conceding a single goal during open play. The semi-final between 'Prestige' and 'Cupid' provided a highly competitive match, with penalties required to separate the teams after a 0-0 stalemate. Eventually, 'Cupid' were able to show the necessary composure needed to force their way into the final.
Head referee Martin Smith commented "As always the tournament had exemplary behaviour throughout from all players involved. It was a pleasure to be involved in and I'm looking forward to the next one."
Director Michael Bell stated "Player of the tournament would be too difficult to pick, but there was an obvious contender for goal of the tournament from Dan Porter of local company BMS, playing in red, when he juggled the ball past two defenders before letting rip with a cracking volley on his weaker foot, helping his team to seal a solid victory in their final group game."
