Food Editor Turned Nutritionist Helps To Provide Relief With "The Acid Reflux Solution" Susan Wyler, R.D, Coauthors Book With Jorge E. Rodriguez
Susan Wyler, MPH, RD, LDN, recently joined forces with Jorge E. Rodriguez, MD, to write "The Acid Reflux Solution: A Cookbook and Lifestyle Guide for Healing Heartburn Naturally," which offers a three-step program for healing heartburn through dietary and easy lifestyle adjustments.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) November 07, 2012 - More than 50 million Americans have GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease. While over-the-counter antacids can be effective for short-term relief, powerful proton pump inhibitors often prescribed for GERD, can prevent the absorption of vital minerals like iron and are associated with dangerous medical conditions when used over long periods of time.
A registered dietitian and licensed nutritionist accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and food writer, Wyler teamed up with Dr. Rodriguez to write this evidence-based book on the painful condition of acid reflux. "The Acid Reflux Solution" combines the latest medical research with reflux-friendly recipes to help people feel great, lose weight, and live heartburn free.
"Acid reflux is an uncomfortable and sometimes even painful condition that can often be prevented," said Wyler. "Dr. Jorge and I have worked together to formulate a three-step program that will heal heartburn naturally. And it has the side benefit of encouraging weight loss. Since developing this plan, Dr. Jorge has not only healed his heartburn, but he has also lost more than 30 pounds!"
Earlier this year, Wyler opened Triangle Nutritional Wellness as a complementary practice at Chapel Hill Doctors Integrative Health Center. Wyler works with the center to provide Triangle area patients with traditional and integrative medical nutrition therapy and dietary support. Her practice specifically addresses the following areas: prevention and management of chronic diseases, specialized needs of older adults, reducing acid reflux, diabetes management and education, weight-loss counseling, cancer support, and detoxification to address food allergies and intolerances.
Wyler received her Master's Degree in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During this time, she completed an advanced internship at Institute Gustave Roussy, one of the leading cancer research hospitals in France. Wyler also collaborated with Dr. Thomas Rau, a Swiss physician who practices biologic medicine, which excels at treating chronic degenerative and inflammatory diseases. In addition to her work at Triangle Nutritional Wellness, she is also an Adjunct Instructor in the Nutrition Department of the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Before becoming certified as a registered dietitian and licensed nutritionist, Wyler was a nationally known food editor, most notably at Food & Wine magazine, and author as well as producer of numerous award-nominated, best-selling cookbooks.
Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. Jorge began practicing gastroenterology in 1988. He then shifted gears from his chosen field of gastroenterology to general medicine and HIV. He was one of the founders of the American Academy of HIV Medicine and former president of California Chapter of the American Academy of HIV Medicine, and former President of the Board of Directors of AIDS Services Foundation Orange County. As a result, he has developed an international reputation as a primary care physician and as a researcher in the war against HIV.
At his private practice in Newport Beach, California, Dr. Jorge practices to a "preventative medicine model" where he strives to unite all facets of health in his patients - physical, emotional and spiritual. His specialties range from treating asthma to AIDS, heartburn to heart disease.
