Fontbonne University Appoints New Member to Board of Trustees
Fontbonne University has added longtime St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf teacher Carol Conway Spehr to its Board of Trustees.
- St. Louis, MO-IL (1888PressRelease) January 21, 2016 - Fontbonne University has named Carol Conway Spehr to its Board of Directors. Spehr is an alumna and long-time supporter of the university.
"We are delighted to add Carol to our Board of Trustees," said Dr. J. Michael Pressimone, Fontbonne president. "Her vision and commitment to Fontbonne's mission will be a valued asset to the leadership of the university."
Spehr graduated from Fontbonne in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts in Deaf Education. After graduating, she began a successful career as a teacher at the St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf. She also served as a consultant for mainstreaming the hearing impaired into private and public schools and has been a featured speaker for the National Council for the Advancement and Support of Higher Education in Denver, Co. and San Antonio, Texas. She has served on numerous advisory boards throughout the St. Louis area and at Fontbonne University, including Mustard Seed Theatre, Fontbonne University Alumni Association, Medical Missions League, Nurses for Newborns Foundation, Habitat for Humanity and others. She is also a charter member of the Fontbonne Community Connection, a giving circle composed of alumnae and friends of Fontbonne that supports faculty, staff, students and student organizations on campus.
"The mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet manifested in the achievements of Fontbonne University continues to inspire and direct me," said Spehr. "Serving on the Board of Trustees will give me another opportunity to extend my efforts and talents in furthering that mission. I have served in many other areas supporting this mission, and look forward to continuing this effort as a member of the Board of Trustees. "
