  • Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) November 22, 2013 - Students and adults of all ages were invited to take to the streets joining the "March for Human Rights" at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Boca Raton campus, on Thursday, November 21. The event was sponsored by Be Aware, Share and Act for Peace (ASAP) and Youth for Human Rights Florida and began at 6:00 PM at the Live Oak Pavilion Center.

Walkers were led through the streets of the campus by FAU's Brazilian Percussion Ensemble. The event presentation included a free showing of "What Are Human Rights?, the Public Service Announcements which portray the 30 rights articulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the award-winning documentary short film "The Story of Human Rights."

Although exact statistics of incidents of bullying, hate crimes, human trafficking and poverty are hard to determine, these human rights violations occur daily throughout the state of Florida and the USA. The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness about these violations, but more importantly to raise awareness of the need for all to know their rights according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights so as to prevent such violations.

ASAP's mission is to encourage FAU students to give back to the community and raise awareness on issues such as poverty, human trafficking, global education and inequality.

Youth for Human Rights Florida (YHR) is a chapter of Youth for Human Rights International, a non-profit organization with a unique video-based educational program based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Said Paola Martinez, YHR Program Coordinator, "We are inspired by the works and words of humanitarians and human rights activists throughout the ages, such as Mohandas Gandhi, who said 'You must be the change you wish to see in the world' and L. Ron Hubbard, who said 'Human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream.' We can do something to help people to know their human rights."
