- (1888PressRelease) April 30, 2018 - Flags For Schools is a newly founded Wisconsin non-profit corporation our work is about building stronger communities, neighborhoods, while promoting patriotism and we believe will do just that.
Our mission is to provide our nation’s symbol, The American Flag to all public and private schools across the nation, that our work will cultivate vibrant communities by promoting our rich history as a nation and true patriotism.
Teachers will have the opportunity to adorn their classrooms with our nation’s flag along with classroom lessons plans prepared for them free of charge. These lessons include a history of our amazing flag heritage, the meaning of heroism defending our country, and the sacrifices we all have made.
Our CEO Wm. Michael Simmons was inspired to bring Flags For Schools to fruition. On March 23rd, during his early morning commute while listening to the morning news, he was taken by a father’s story about visiting his sons’ classroom. During his interview, he was taken back that during the Pledge of Allegiance he was stricken by the absence of the American Flag in the classroom. He witnessed all the students standing while reciting the pledge of allegiance, but still no flag insight. He later explained, there was a flag, but it was a photocopy of our nation’s flag on a purple piece of paper. It just wasn’t in his sons’ classroom, but other classrooms as well. It was explained to him, our flag was a low budget consideration. Flags For Schools is partnering with fellow Wisconsin based companies to provide United States Flag and lesson plans. American Legion and Veterans of Foreign are also engaged in providing return flag retirements in exchange for a new flag.
