  • (1888PressRelease) February 08, 2025 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 018.25 to provide an overview of the European Chemicals Agency’s (ECHA) addition of five substances and revision of one substance on the Candidate List.

The Candidate List of substances of very high concern (SVHC) includes chemicals that can cause harm to people, animals or the environment. Companies are subject to legal obligations when substances included in the list are supplied, either on their own, in mixtures or in articles.

The additions to the Candidate List were announced on January 21, 2025, and are as follows:

    1. 6-[(C10-C13)-alkyl-(branched, unsaturated)-2,5-dioxopyrrolidin-1yl]hexanoic acid
    2. O,O,O-triphenyl phosphorothioate
    3. Octamethyltrisiloxane
    4. Perfluamine
    5. Reaction mass of: triphenylthiophosphate and tertiary butylated phenyl derivatives

The existing entry for tris(4-nonylphenyl, branched and linear) phosphite has also been amended.

EU or EEA suppliers of articles containing an SVHC on the Candidate List in a concentration above 0.1% must provide information to allow its safe use within 45 days when requested. In addition, there is a duty to notify the ECHA under the REACH regulations as well as the Waste Framework Directive, subject to conditions.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 018.25 includes a useful table detailing the new additions and their applications, as well as further information on the legal obligations associated with the use of chemicals on the Candidate List.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 018.25 for more details.
