FirstFloor & SfL+a Architects Announce Sandy Grove Middle School Project
Educational Facility Financed Through Public-Private Partnership First Of Its Kind In North Carolina, Only Second In United States.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) July 06, 2012 - SfL+a Architects (http://www.sfla.biz) has announced the approval to build Sandy Grove Middle School, a future Lumber Bridge, Hoke County Schools educational facility that will be the first of public-private partnership financed school in North Carolina and second of its kind in the nation. The 74,000 square-foot school will be designed to meet LEED Gold standards and will be a net-zero facility, one that returns more energy to the grid than it consumes. Innovative design and construction features include large photovoltaic and geothermal heating and cooling systems, high efficiency lighting, spray foam insulation, a whole building generator and solar panels. These measures will save Hoke County Schools nearly $35 million over the next 40 years.
Sandy Grove Middle School will be financed through a public-private partnership, one of the most cutting-edge ways to fund new school construction. Under a public-private partnership, the private sector assumes the risk of capital and resources for construction, while the public sector builds the facility to local and state standards.
The school will provide a progressive, top-caliber education to 600 Hoke County children. The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for Sandy Grove Middle School on Thursday, July 19 at 10 a.m. at 300 Chason Road, Lumber Bridge, N.C. 28357.
