First Time Teen Author Medhaa Banaji Wins Bronze Florida Authors and Publishers Presidents Book Award For The Transmalians

The award is considered one of the most prestigious in the literary world. The Transmalians published when Medhaa was 16 is her first effort at book writing, earning critical acclaim and a strong following among readers who eagerly await her next book.

The Transmalians is the story of twelve-year old twin siblings, Sam and Alana, who had a picture-perfect life that many would dream about having. Shortly after, Sam and Alana were taken to an orphanage, only to realize that it was far from ordinary. It was an orphanage for children with unique and special powers. These powers allowed them to gain various characteristics of animals. Sam and Alana then discover that they belong to a unique race of people, who have been in hiding for hundreds of years from civilization. While trying to reconcile this with their past life and develop a plan to rescue their parents, they are transferred to a mystical island, the Adventure Island, whose secrets are as profound as its history.
