    About UNESCO Center for Peace

As the flagship member of the US UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations Working Group, UNESCO Center for Peace works to create the conditions for dialogue among civilizations, cultures and peoples, based upon respect for commonly shared values. It is through this dialogue that the world can achieve global visions of sustainable development encompassing observance of human rights, mutual respect and the
alleviation of poverty, all of which are at the heart of UNESCO'S mission and activities.

UNESCO Center for Peace promotes the ideals of UNESCO and is located in Frederick, Maryland. The center has been building strong alliances in the Washington, DC metro area since 2004. Major partners include the US Institute of Peace, Americans for UNESCO, Sahaja Meditation, Hood College and EduSerc. Since then, the center has become a cultural anchor for the region, celebrating community diversity,
contributing on current issues and events, engaging policy makers, and working with all stakeholders to further understanding of peace, acceptance and tolerance.

Yearly The UNESCO Center for Peace host students around the world for a two week summer camp called the International Model United Nations (IMUN) for students ages 14 to 22. The mission of the United Nations and UNESCO are reflected through our IMUN summer camp, which serves as a forum in which students from around the world can gather to discuss some of the major challenges facing the world today, in fields such as the international peace, economic progress, human rights and security. It aims to educate participants about civics, effective communication, globalization and multilateral diplomacy. It serves as a "mock" UN for students.
