  • (1888PressRelease) October 12, 2012 - To nurture social entrepreneurship and build character among the youth, SNCF is working hand in hand with MoneyTree Singapore Pte Ltd to offer this elective programme that leverages on the co-operative principles of self and mutual help, and seeks to complement the education values taught in schools.

Students will be encouraged to identify and understand community issues; and initiate action among their peers to make a difference and improve the lives of others with their social business ideas.

The programme, which will take place during school hours, will span three academic years, with one module consisting of up to 15 contact hours over 10 sessions. Students will learn how a social entrepreneur can make an impact on the community, knowledge on business structures, co-operative values and principles and develop problem solving and decision making skills and more. The students will also get an opportunity to visit a co-operative and social enterprise, from which they will brainstorm for ideas to value-add to. Students will develop a project and present their ideas in the final session, exemplifying the understanding they gained.

In the long run, the programme will target a wider pool of Primary school pupils and Junior College students as well.

The objectives of MoneyTree, a training company, and SNCF are tacitly fused and fulfilled in the co-operative programme. The collaborative efforts by both organisations will equip students with sound social entrepreneurship knowledge and encourage them to come up with innovative social business ideas to deal with social issues.
