Fire Academy Teams Up With 1-800-GOT-SCRAP For Car Collection
Program Seeks Cars For Jaws-of-Life Training After Which They Are Recycled.
- Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) October 09, 2012 - 1-800-GOT-SCRAP is teaming up with the Southern California Auto Extrication Academy to collect cars that will be used for vehicle rescue training using the "Jaws of Life." Through this new partnership, the public will be encouraged to visit Cars4FireRescue.com to "donate" their rundown vehicles to support this life-saving program. In turn, donors will receive $150 to $250 depending on the recycle value of the vehicle. Additionally, for each vehicle received, 1-800-GOT-SCRAP will donate $50 to firefighter-related charities. The cars are desperately needed so that firefighters can learn to expertly use the Jaws of Life equipment to safely & efficiently remove passengers who have been involved in major auto accidents.
"We are excited to embark on this new partnership," said Cristi Rossi, executive vice president of operations for 1-800-GOT-SCRAP. "We have worked with the Southern California Auto Extrication Academy in car collection campaigns in the past and hope that by formalizing our relationship we can continue on the road to success. We hope that the public recognizes the need to donate so the rescue team can properly train. And the fact that we recycle what remains of the vehicles is an added bonus."
Added Randy Babbitt, "There is an extreme lack of cars so we're delighted to team with 1-800-GOT-SCRAP. We can't save lives from vehicle accidents without trained firefighters and we can't train firefighters without vehicles."
Rossi said that they will accept cars in all conditions, whether up on blocks, taking up room in a storage facility or just sitting idly in a garage. Participants must have the proper ownership documentation at pickup time. To make a donation, call 1-800-GOT SCRAP.
1-800-GOT-SCRAP is available at 50 recycling centers in 3 states. It has made a name for itself through "extreme recycling" of unwanted large-scale metal items such as dishwashers, washing machines, stoves, refrigerators and cars.
