- Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) December 22, 2010 - CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union places importance on helping their members become better money managers. By teaching and promoting strong money management skills and financial education, CommonWealth One ensures that all members have the ability to make sound financial decisions throughout their life.
As part of this commitment, CommonWealth One sponsored a "Reality Store" activity on December 9, 2010 at Francis C. Hammond Middle School in Alexandria, Virginia. This reality store was coordinated by Alexia Arama, Business Development Officer. CommonWealth One employees and community members generously volunteered their time to make this activity successful. Volunteers were divided into booths, representing different financial obligations of life, such as housing, transportation, personal health, entertainment and more. The students were given real life scenarios with income, spouses, children, jobs and financial obligations. Their goal was to visit each booth, fulfilling their financial needs without exceeding their income. Many of the students were stunned by how difficult financial responsibility can be and others were pleasantly surprised by what a difference a good education and job can make.
In addition to reality store activities with students, CommonWealth One has a comprehensive financial education program for all life stages run by their business development office that includes seminars, events and school credit union days. CommonWealth One is headquartered at 4875 Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria and has conveniently located branches in Northern Virginia, Washington, DC, Harrisonburg, Va. and Front Royal, VA.
