  • Portland-Vancouver, OR-WA (1888PressRelease) October 28, 2010 - Financial Beginnings, a Portland-based nonprofit that provides financial education at no cost to children and young adults throughout the Pacific Northwest, today announced that its fourth annual tribute event, A Tale of Good Cents, will be held at Pure Space (1315 NW Overton Portland, OR), on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 from 6:00-9:00 PM.

Emceed by KGW's Nick Allard, the event will unite educators, finance industry leaders, community members, and the media for an evening of dinner, entertainment and goodwill. This year's honored guests include Senator Rick Metsger, among other community leaders. Senator Metsger will be recognized for his achievements including a bill he recently presented based on the recommendations of the state's Finance Education Task Force, and the public efforts he has made to raise awareness for financial literacy education.

This year's event will also bring a variety of favorite games to life, as guests will have the opportunity to test their knowledge and luck by playing The Game of Life, a series of games related to Financial Beginnings' core curriculum-all to raise funds to support financial literacy programs.

"The annual tribute event is a significant part of Financial Beginnings' funding," said Melody Thompson, executive director of Financial Beginnings. Proceeds from this event will help us expand our curriculum, recruit and train more volunteers, develop new programs and most importantly, reach more students here in the Pacific Northwest."
