- Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) December 20, 2017 - Savoy South Dance Hall will be hosting its final Charity Swing Dance at Clearwater’s Fort Harrison on Thursday the 21st of December, from 7 – 10pm. The $15 entry fee will benefit Miracles Outreach, a ministry that assists young women who have been rescued from human traffickers.
Miracles Outreach provides a wide array of support for young people and families – from assistance with attaining a GED to helping young mothers aging out of foster care to providing mentors for young men lacking male role models. Their programs also include housing for the victims of human trafficking and an opportunity for them to get their lives back on track.
“The Miracles Outreach program made me realize that I am somebody,” said one young woman, “that my dreams are possible and that happiness is not about being with someone, it is about accepting yourself and living – actually living – each day, fulfilling your dreams and truly loving who you are.”
The $15 donation at the door will provide young women an opportunity to learn similar lessons. A dance lesson and refreshments are included with the donation. A cake walk held during the dance will raise additional funds.
Arleene Norman, the founder of Savoy South and owner of Right Step Studio, started the dances as a way to give back to the community. Earlier dances have benefitted the Pinellas Sheriff’s Police Athletic League and My Hope Chest. Ms. Norman has a 20-plus year history as a dance instructor, and has been a student of dance for most of her life.
Savoy South Dance Hall is a mobile dance hall, which hosts regular swing dance classes and events throughout the Tampa Bay Area.
The monthly Swing Dances for Charity are held in the Fort Harrison’s tenth floor Crystal Ballroom, home to one of the only oval wood dance floors in Florida. The Flag Band plays live accompaniment throughout the dance and will be joined by special guest artists in honor of the holiday season.
Swing dance evolved from the early years of American Jazz in the 1920s, and covers a variety of styles. At the dance for charity on December 21st, those new to the dance form will learn East Coast Swing. The dance class begins at 7, with an open dance starting at 8pm.
No partner is needed and all ages are welcome. For more information, please contact Savoy South Dance Hall at (727) 564-6847 or MsRightStep ( @ ) gmail dot com
