(1888PressRelease) April 29, 2014 - In his continuing effort to promote, an underutilized visual resource of historically important film treasures, Mr. Stewart shares his research into the motion pictures of twentieth century warfare held in the film vault of the National Archives.

According to the author, "WARFILMS is a synopsis, a summary, an abbreviated finder's aid...it's an overview of the 119,000-plus reels of historic motion picture film produced, acquired, or captured by twentieth century American armed forces that are located within the 35 military Record Groups at the United States National Archives and Records Administration facility in College Park, Maryland. Now that's a bit of a run-on sentence, but it's a very accurate description of this book."

While WARFILMS does not try to list all military films in the National Archives, it does identify and describe over 350 of them for review. The goal is to pique the readers' interest so that they will explore the additional thousands of historic military titles on their own. Mr. Stewart provides instructions on how to do that.

Phillip W. Stewart is a film researcher and the author of nine award winning books. He is also a recipient of the J. Franklin Jameson Archival Advocacy Award given by the Society of American Archivists for his work promoting motion picture film preservation and research at the National Archives.
